Lahcen El Hasnaoui, a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the House of Councillors, praised the great success of the first edition of the “Morocco Video Game Industry Expo,” held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
In a statement delivered during the oral question period held today, Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the House of Councillors, Al-Hasnawi praised the reforms and initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Youth and Culture, as well as the ministry’s positive track record—marked by a youthful spirit and renewed energy—in the areas of culture, youth, and communication.

The parliamentary advisor said, “For the first time in Morocco’s history, thanks to your efforts, culture has become a self-sustaining industry, and the sector has become a productive one that invests in cultural potential and strengthens the cultural industry. “We therefore congratulate you, Mr. Minister, on the tremendous effort you have made in the field of video games, which you are seeking to transform from a realm of entertainment into an industrial sector that benefits our country’s economy and the Moroccan workforce—a sector experiencing rapid growth, with global revenue exceeding $197 billion.”
The same spokesperson added, “We note with great satisfaction the policy you have adopted in this sector, which has shifted from supporting intellectual and creative endeavors to seeking to establish a rational and sustainable manufacturing base within the fields of this promising sector—one that has moved beyond cultural and artistic industries to transition from a position of consumption to one of production.”

Lahcen El Hasnaoui emphasized that for this promising initiative to succeed, it is essential that various stakeholders join forces to give the sector a real boost by launching a new generation of support programs, encouraging the banking sector to support emerging and innovative startups in the field of video games, working to encourage the national private sector to embrace this promising economy, developing training institutes, and ensuring equitable regional distribution of these resources.
