Mohamed Al-Hamidi, a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Group in the House of Advisors, stressed that the situation of young people in rural areas has become alarming and requires concerted government efforts to find urgent and radical solutions to the problems facing this demographic. He highlighted that young people in rural areas are grappling with a host of social and economic challenges, most notably unemployment, education, and inadequate infrastructure.
This was stated in a question posed by Al-Hamidi to the Minister of Labor and Professional Integration regarding reducing youth unemployment in rural areas, during the oral question session held today, Tuesday, May 18, 2021, where he called for the need to accelerate the implementation of planned development projects in order to improve the economic and social situation in rural areas and enhance the conditions for young people.
Al-Hamidi explained that the government has failed to fulfill the commitments outlined in its election platform regarding the reduction of unemployment in rural areas, citing programs that have been stalled for years and others that have failed to achieve their intended results, despite the great and special attention His Majesty King Mohammed VI has given to rural areas. He emphasized that reports from the High Commission for Planning and the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council paint a bleak picture of youth unemployment and the success rate of startups, which remains very low due to a lack of training, guidance, and support.
