On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in Marrakech, Ms. Ghita Mezzour, Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, presided over the opening session of the Open Government Partnership’s Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting, which is being hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This event brings together Open Government leaders and stakeholders from Africa and the Middle East, including international partners, to strengthen collective ambition, energize the community, and share experiences on the sidelines of the event, with the aim of reinforcing the founding values of the Open Government Partnership, particularly the transparency of public initiatives and their openness to new forms of consultation and cooperation with civil society, relying in particular on digital technology and modern technologies.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Mezour emphasized that Morocco, in accordance with the King’s directives, has been committed to promoting various regional and international initiatives aimed at fostering civic engagement, revitalizing public life, and consolidating the principles of good governance.
The minister highlighted the efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco since joining this initiative, as well as the significant progress our country has made in digitizing public services. She also shared with the audience the ministry’s work on drafting the national digital transformation strategy, which is based on accelerating digital inclusion, improving digital services, and making Morocco a regional digital hub.
The same spokesperson explained that the Open Government Partnership’s regional meeting for Africa and the Middle East is an opportunity to exchange ideas, experiences, and best practices, with a view to upholding the principles of good governance, transparency, and citizen participation, in order to achieve development, which remains the ultimate goal of these governments.
