PAM Politburo Issues A Statement After Friday’s Meeting

PAM Political Bureau held a meeting on Friday, February 12, 2021, under the chairmanship of the party’s SG, Abdellatif Ouahbi. The meeting was devoted to discussing developments in the national and international political scene, and the latest arrangements related to the upcoming elections, in addition to evaluating the party’s recently expressed positions through its two parliamentary teams, as well as the party’s organizational situation.

At the beginning of this meeting, members of PAM’s Political Bureau paid tribute to the victims of Tangier’s production unit incident, who lost their lives to the recent floods that exposed the fragile economic situation within many sectors and professions. PAM’s Politburo members have also held the government responsible for this tragedy, provided the increase in unstructured and illegal activities, besides many other threats that haunt the lives of many workers and professionals in such unsafe workshops and stores; while calling the latter to take all necessary measures so that such calamities do not recur.

In light of Ouahbi’s presentation on the most important developments within the national political scene, especially in terms of Morocco’s sovereignty cause, PAM’s Politburo members called on the government to engage in international forums with the aim of promoting the important diplomatic gains achieved by our country in terms of establishing legitimate territorial integrity claims in different capitals around the world, especially in Europe.

Meanwhile, PAM’s Political Bureau is keen to recognize the authorities’ effective approach to managing Covid-19 vaccination process, however, the politburo tends to bring attention to some of the deficiencies that may exist within this crucial national process, whether in terms of taking Spatial justice into account throughout this vaccination process, or in ensuring the vaccination of all the elders living in the far reaches of mountains and suburban areas.

Within the same context, PAM’s Political Bureau recalled the decisive role HM’s directives played in facing this pandemic, as well as the sense of solidarity and synergy that Moroccan people have shown at the beginning of this health crisis, which resulted in the steadfastness of many sectors; however, the politburo is keen to express its displeasure with the government’s performance in light of these circumstances, for it has caused the solidarity balance to shake, and pushed many sectors towards a dead-end, as it lacks the necessary vigilance to manage the situation accordingly; Moreover, the government has failed to implement his majesty’s directives aimed at reviving the economy and addressing social repercussions. In fact, the government’s failure to implement the royal directives dictating the creation of a Strategic Investment Fund is witness to such incomprehensible inaction.

As for the recent events in some of Morocco’s northern regions, members of the Political Bureau expressed their high regards for the efforts made by many institutions in our country to create economic and social alternatives in these regions in particular, however, this remains insufficient compared to the economic and social gap that smuggling used to occupy. Therefore, in order to be able to fill the gap, we are required to make more efforts on the eastern, northern and southern borders, as well as work to create more alternatives likely to alleviate the social and economic situation within borderlines in general.

Regarding the upcoming elections, members of the Political Bureau took note of the organizational bylaws that were approved during the ministerial meeting held on Thursday (February 11, 2021) in Fez; upon which, they decided to form a mini-committee to be chaired by the Secretary-General in person. The mini-committee shall also include the President of the National Council, the heads of both parliamentary teams, and members of the National Elections Commission, to serve as advocates to PAM’s MPs upon discussing the electoral laws once referred to the Parliament.

In addition, Politburo members expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the government’s programs and projects are being exploited in electoral campaigns, especially in villages and remote communes, provided the involvement of high-ranking officials within their respective ministerial offices in party framing.

On the other hand, PAM’s politburo members expressed their satisfaction with the draft report presented by the National Elections Commission, as well as the important conclusions reached by the latter upon visiting several regions and areas.

As for the issue on the house of Councillors’ pensions, members of PAM’s political bureau reaffirmed the position they expressed during their previous meeting, as has already been declared by the party’s SG; However, the members called upon PAM’s team within the first parliamentary chamber to use its right to appeal against the first law proposal on MPs pension liquidation before the constitutional court, in order for the latter to be engaged in important societal debates, with the purpose of making its respectable decision a constitutional reference during the liquidation process.

Finally, with regard to the party’s internal organization, the Politburo members expressed their satisfaction with the organizational and communicative dynamism within the party’s components in light of preparing for the upcoming elections.
