Mrs. Amina Bouayach, President of the National Human Rights Council has announced the steps being undertaken by the legal institution to save Moroccan student Ibrahim Saadun, sentenced to death penalty by a pro-Russian court in Ukraine along with two Brits.
Mrs. Bouayach has confirmed at the opening of the council’s general assembly eighth session held in Rabat, that the NHRC is reinforcing its good offices to protect Moroccan student Ibrahim Saadun’s right in life, stating: “Due to Ukrainian state dissolving its national institution for human rights, the NHRC has communicated with national institution for human rights in Russia to intervene wherever possible to protect Moroccan citizen’s right”.
President of the NHRC added that “The council has solicited from the Russian institution to deploy all good offices so that Moroccan student Ibrahim Saadun would benefit from a fair trial during the appeal, and that it has established communication with concerned sides to get informed about Mr. Saadun’s detention conditions and respect for international standards”.
During her statement, Mrs. Amina Bouayach has reconfirmed the council’s concerns for this issue, therefore following it relentlessly and deploying all possible offices to save the Moroccan student from the risks of death penalty. Mrs. Bouayach has emphasized that “the NHRC as a national institution for human rights is pursuing its international good offices to protect Moroccan student Ibrahim Saadun’s right in life”.
From our position, said the NHRC President, “We have taken the initiative to undertake international offices and communicate with national institutions for human rights to save Ibrahim Saadun from the risks of death penalty, which we are pleading for its abolition from all national and international legislations”.
