Ministry of Digital Transition has disclosed measures about circulation and distribution of unidentified phone cards

Minister Delegate to the Government President in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform Mrs. Ghita Mezzour has stated that the National Agency for Communication Regulatory has taken a series of measures following some practices concerning circulation and distribution of unidentified phone cards, of the most important is the decision about identifying subscribers’ identity in mobile services, stressing that each customer should be subject of identification.

Minister Mezzour has made clear in her response to an oral question at the House of Councilors that by the provision of that decision, operators of communication public network have become engaged to update subscribers’ database and therefore make it more credible through ensuring the activation of each number appropriate with the first and last name of the subscriber plus his/her identity card and date of subscription contract.

Minister Mezzour added that a three-months deadline was decided to ensure the updating of database which confirms the subscribers’ identity, pointing out that in case of expiration of the deadline without providing information and data, the operator will be obliged to cancel and block concerned phone card.

Minister Mezzour has reaffirmed that operators of communications public network are committed today to identify the identity of subscription applicants in the (phone) service, highlighting that the operator is the one responsible for identifying the identity of its customers who have bought phone cards from different distributors or commercial agents.

The government official added that any person moral or personal, on the ground of his/her application, could benefit from subscription services offered by the operators of communication public network, according to article 23 of the bill number 24.96 about post and communication.
