On Thursday, June 26, the British government reiterated its commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Morocco, emphasizing that London considers Morocco “a crucial and increasingly vital trade and investment partner for the United Kingdom.”
Michael Shanks, the British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Energy Security and the Energy Transition, said in a statement to the House of Commons that “the United Kingdom is committed to continuing to strengthen this partnership and considers Morocco to be a trade and investment partner of growing importance to it.”
The British official emphasized that his country views Morocco as a “key strategic partner,” particularly in the areas of clean energy, decarbonization, and combating climate change.
In this context, he noted that the British government considers Morocco “an attractive and innovative destination for investment,” adding that British companies, with government support, are seeking to expand their investments in the Kingdom.
Mr. Shanks noted that the two countries had agreed, in early June, to strengthen their strategic partnership, on the occasion of the visit to Morocco by British Foreign Secretary David Lamy.
He said that the United Kingdom is “proud” to be collaborating with Morocco under the “Breakthrough Agenda,” a program co-led by the two countries in the “energy” sector, noting that London intends to continue supporting the ambitious goals set by Morocco in the field of renewable energy, particularly through the Conference of the Parties’ Energy Transition Council.
Mr. Shanks concluded by noting that the United Kingdom looks forward to identifying and developing new avenues for cooperation with Morocco in these promising sectors, which are constantly evolving.
