In response to the growing challenges posed by terrorist threats, the General Directorate of National Security announced that it has reinforced its decentralized national security units with a number of specialized units and teams dedicated to detecting, dismantling, and handling explosives.
A statement from the Directorate, regarding the 2020 security report, indicated that the Directorate had established five regional explosives teams in the security districts of Rabat, Marrakech, Casablanca, Tangier, and Agadir, explaining that these teams were trained in both technical and practical aspects, and equipped them with eight high-tech vehicles carrying robots and advanced tools for remote monitoring and handling of explosives, in addition to ensuring a precautionary approach to all risks and threats associated with explosive devices.
To ensure the necessary effectiveness and readiness in combating emerging criminal trends, five new anti-gang units (“B.A.G.”) have also been established in the cities of Casablanca, Kenitra, Tangier, Oujda, and Agadir, These teams have been equipped with the necessary human and logistical resources as specialized units dedicated to combating criminal networks.
In the same vein, a regional laboratory for digital forensics analysis was established at the Tetouan Security Directorate as a new technical support mechanism in the field of digital and technological expertise, In addition to supporting regional forensic and technical police units, eleven new forensic investigation units have been established in the Mahdia Security District and at police stations in the villages of Bamhamad, Kelima, Ain Beni Matar, Zaiou, Al-Aroui, Fquik, Beni Ansar, Tiquin, Oulad Tayma, and Targist.
