A working session was held yesterday, Tuesday, July 13, in Casablanca, bringing together the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and the Competition Council to discuss and exchange views on the challenges facing the legal framework governing competition, price freedom, and consumer protection.
This meeting was held as part of a series of consultations organized between member companies of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and teams from the Competition Council, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two parties in line with both institutions’ commitment to fostering strong and sustainable economic development that contributes to supporting growth and creating a dynamic labor market.
In a speech delivered during the session, Mr. Ahmed Rahou, Chairman of the Competition Council, emphasized the importance of fair competition as a cornerstone for building a strong and efficient economy.
In this regard, he emphasized that enforcing fair competition rules and ensuring price freedom help provide consumers with the best products and services at reasonable prices.
Rahou added that contractors’ compliance with the legal framework governing price freedom and competition ensures the protection and sustainability of investments, emphasizing that the Council will ensure strict enforcement of these rules. In the same vein, he noted that the Council will continue to adopt a spirit of openness and an educational approach to enable companies to operate in accordance with relevant best practices.
For his part, Mr. Chakib Laalj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, reaffirmed the Confederation’s full commitment to the principles of free competition, noting the critical importance of the clear, transparent, and fair application of competition rules and the monitoring of economic concentrations in order to support the economy and ensure its vitality.
Laalj also highlighted the negative impact of the informal sector on the national economy, stressing the urgent need to integrate this sector into the formal economy through the adoption of a comprehensive, forward-looking, and incentivizing approach.
During this meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and the Competition Council, and to work together to involve more stakeholders in the process aimed at establishing the foundations of a free, transparent, and accessible market for all, in order to foster a healthy economy that supports growth and is capable of creating more sustainable job opportunities.
